This was my final year 12 film for 2011. The task was to create an abstract world-cinema film under a certain genre. I chose to follow the surrealist genre. The average tom, dick and harry probably won’t understand the meaning by first glance.. but hopefully you will read this… (treatment) It is a known fact that past experiences effect a human being and shape them into the person that they are. Whether positive or negative, these experiences seem to stay with many as they grow. The Never-ending Journey is a film that focuses on the effects of these past experiences, and in particular the effect of them on the subconscious mind. The goal of this film is to express the artistic nature of the mind and imagination. The film follows a 17-year-old girl, Caitlin, and the struggle that she has with past traumatic experiences of fitting in, finding herself, and her overall journey of her growing as a person. These traumatic experiences have a great influence on her life, and continue to hold her down unwillingly. The unconscious mind will be represented by many quick transitions and random shots of objects relating to her past (dripping water, her eyes, trees, fingers). These factors all seem out of the ordinary in an ordinary world; which is what surrealism is. The settings will be changed freely through forests, open roads, beaches and libraries, to symbolize the erratic nature of the mind. The production can be described as a nightmare as it takes on a very dark approach to
