While creating media to help stimulate GCSE composition, I wondered about combining Steve Reich style minimalism with its visual antithesis, abstract expressionism. I don’t know whether others agree, but I always thought Jackson Pollock’s drip technique suited minimalism. Mind you, I’m a drummer, so what do I know about music?

When Hurricane Wilma tore through Victor-Hugo’s art studio at The Grand View Palace in North Bay Village residents were left to fend for themselves without walls or security to protect against predators disguised as neighbors. Casey Lezell and The Maverick Artist set out to document the plight of the victims in 2005. Fusing the disturbing images of an attractive young woman living without walls to safeguard her privacy with the haunting sounds of 3kStatic’s “Ghosts”, the Modern Art Music Movement (MAMM) challenges viewers to question what life would be like if we lived in a world without barriers. Do you really know who your neighbors are?
