Also, that’s a crap definition of art…
What’s up with your hair, dude? Looks kinda silly.
If “art” is defined by each individual, then it has no definition. “Art” is notoriously hard to define. Also, you’re not considering that maybe there are features of this “abstract” art that elude your perception and understanding and are holding you back from appreciating it.
When you get to college, you should study some philosophy, art history, and take an aesthetics course, because it will help you formulate and answer these questions.

I have a very simple definition of art: Beauty. Anything that is defined as pleasing to the senses in an unimaginable manner, to me, is art.
my definition of art is a Lamborghini Reventon, just gorgeous what Italians do with cars, yes it is a car but cars can be art too, the only car in the Smithsonian American Art Museum is the Cord by Auburn if I am not mistaken
I think the newspaper is a satire on abstract art.

I think art is….way too subjective to be given a simple definition, though yours is a pretty good one. I remember my old art teacher always used to tell us how he hated grading our works because theres no way to objectively define good or bad art….though he usually gave us all A’s anyway, so I guess we were doing something right

That last sentence…sad but true.
A lot of the time, simplistic abstract art seems kinda silly to me, because even though the artists are obviously expressing their own emotions, when something like a fuckin’ black square, is their own ‘personal emotional expresssion, then I don’t really know why anyone should even care. if they’re trying to portray ‘emptiness’, then just close your eyes…I mean, fuck, and like you said: ‘newspapers’, we see shit like that every day, I just don’t see the purpose.

I had a friend tell me that Music isn’t art…..This pissed me off beyond belief. I’ve spent the last 18 years of my life perfecting my art as a musician..I play what I feel…I put my emotions into something and someone has the balls to say what i’m doing isn’t art…That angers me.. What do you think? Should I slap her with a fail award?
It can mean everything, by never meaning the same thing to two people? I’ve heard people argue that, while goodness can mean almost anything, there are some constraints on the range of meanings it can have (what people generally feel like, what successful societies usually oppose, forget the rest) perhaps the definition of art is something similar? That said I think the word exists primarily so works of art can be sold as art, generating a higher profit from people who would pay more for art.
art is a persons soul come to life in a form for others to enjoy and view as well as to let out the savagries we face in life lots of time people use art to vent whats frustrating them within
